Hard choice

For a 50 mile commute I would not recommend a two stroke. I'd be looking at one of the various Japanese built 125s available. Which one depends very much on your personal preferences, build and type of roads used.

The only common issue with many 125s is that they are overgeared and for riding any distance on faster roads I'd suggest dropping the front sprocket by one tooth. That will give you better performance and frankly won't lower your top speed other than when going downhill with the wind behind you .

Echo whats been said, Honda CBR , CBF, CB 125 4 strokes, if your determined for a 2 Stroke ,would only recommend the DT125X 2004-07 , but got to remember 2 stokes need more attention to servicing than 4 strokes, and higher running costs

I tried to ride a DT125 long distance once but it was a miserable experience. Every time you go over a bump you find yourself halfway up the tank due to the shape of the seat . Mind you this was a long time ago so maybe the design has changed .

Yeh, the 04-07 was a better "on road" than "off road", suspension was better suited to on road

I'm a big fan of 2 strokes, I have two; RGV 250 & GT380.

Properly looked after with good quality oil and warmed up before riding them can be a pleasure to own, nothing else sounds, performs or smells like them and guarantee to draw attention wherever you go.

However, I would hesitate in recommending one for a 50 mile commute, as been said they can be thirsty if flogged, quality oil is around £10 a litre and they are only one beat away from a seizure or crank failure if not set up correctly.Make sure your left hand covers the clutch and you have quick reactions

Is there any reason why you want 2 smoke?
