potatobroxd
Have been putting a lot of miles on my bike so guessing cables need to be lubed sooner or later. Is chain lube ok as a lubricant for cables? MC-Garage says any lube is fine but some comments said chain lube is sticky etc..I was planning to use Wurth chain lube as i alrd have it in stock
Guest
Ordinary engine oil is best.... Unless you have nylon lined cables - oil will make the lining swell and jam the cable. Get a cable oiler. Money well spent.
fastbob
No no no ! Chain lube will glue them up . Use a light oil such as 3 in 1 .

Marino
Exactly, chain lube is not good idea for cables, it will cover only the top part but not entire cable. Just poure small amount of oil down the cable and that’s it.
Fleck
Fully synthetic engine oil
fastbob
When you lube a cable it's best to flush out all the existing oil and gunk with WD-40 or Brake cleaner BEFORE putting any more oil down it . I have revived many a sticky old cable this way .
