The lights are out of sequence, there's a traffic light controlled roundabout near me, and the lights are out of sequence, where approaching traffic will go green, amber, red, when it turns to amber, the waiting traffic lights change at the same time, and the waiting traffic can be on green, while the stopping traffic is still on amber :thumb:

Its definitely sequenced right as at night you can see it turns red before my lights had turned green so he cant really argue that it was amber

  • 4 weeks later...

The guy filtering at speed today on the A40 approach to Oxford. On a three lane roundabout I had stopped to allow traffic queuing to clear the junction in order for an ambulance to get through. Fortunately two drivers on the other two lanes sussed why I'd stopped and did the same ... As did all the traffic queuing who used the road space we'd cleared in order to make space for the ambulance to make uninterrupted progress.

The one clot was the biker who was oblivious to what was going on and pushed his way through.

I bet he felt so smug getting into that clear bit of road until he realised the big yellow thing with flashing lights was the reason everyone else had stopped.

Not only did he nearly cause a collision. He was the sole cause of delaying the ambulance.

If he'd filtered at a more realistic speed he'd have seen what was going on.

Yesterday on the way back from The Stag Cafe (tag), there were two 'extra wide' loads with an escort van behind them taking up both lanes of the A14 with a huge double queue of traffic behind them. So after (safely) filtering to the front I moved over to the right rear corner of the van with a view to passing the wide loads. However, the van driver also pulled over to the right, blocking me. So, I had a rethink and pulled across to the left and drew level with the nearside window of the escort motioning that I would like to go through (there was plenty of room for a bike but not a car). He shook his head at me and then got on his mike. Obviously, he was taking to the load drivers as the rearmost moved over to the left a little (blocking that 'filter lane') and the lead driver moved right - totally blocking the lanes. I just waved (kindly) at the escort driver then, approaching the Cambridge junction, took the M11 slip - powered past and back in front of the convoy.

So my nomination is the escort vehicle driver for being a totally inconsiderate knob-head!

I think you should nominate yourself, he was doing his job :thumb:

yes - He was doing his job but.,.... With a little bit of consideration, he could have let me go past without any bother!

You could apply your logic to filtering and the cars in front deliberately block you - After all, they are just out driving.

Filtering through traffic is totally irrelivent to the scenario of being prevented from passing by an escort for a wide load,

the escort is there to stop idiots like you endangering yourself, that is why they are there, FOR YOUR SAFETY

Could you have positioned yourself between the back of the wide load and the rear escort van just to p1ss them off? And ridden slower than the wide load to make sure they had to drop back even further?? Pretty sure deliberately blocking you like that would have been illegal

I dont think they have the authority to block traffic like that if there is a huge tail back then they need to pull over when there space to let traffic pass as they cant block the road every one had the right to drive /ride on the road . If it was such a narrow road then there should been cops there to stop ppl passing. You see the big load s that going to slow every one down will have cops and out riders.. so dick in a tranny van with yellow lights got no right at all .. I would.have slowed him right down as well .

Then I would have been a big a dick as him!

I was polite and asked to go through - he could therefore see I was being sensible. I could have just gone through straight away and easily at that!

However, I thought asking (and making sure he was aware of me - He could have informed the two wide load drivers as well) was the correct thing to do.

This has not changed my attitude - If faced with the same situation again, I would do exactly the same and ask politely.

Shame there were no cops around (they never are when you would like to see them).

My apologies GOG, now that you have explained your initial intentions, then you were perfectly in the right, but the way you made it sound in your first post, was that you moved to overtake regardless of the situation, and got miffed by the drivers actions for blocking you, now that that's been cleared up, happy days :thumb:

The driver of this van!!

The inconsiderate, selfish d*ck head has parked it so all pedestrians have to step in to a busy road to get round it.

I had a look round & couldn’t see the dumb ass ( assumed they’d have some kind of oily ass branded workwear )

No way we’re they in a job as it’s a residential road .... C. U. Next Tuesday!!

Seems the standard of driving of these guys vary...

I saw a wide load escort vehicle tell indicating to an Ambulance with blue lights going to stop to allow wideload to pass (knob) ...

Ambulance driver carried on, driver of wide load got our of cab and directed traffic for ambulance to pass (legend) ....

Two up sports bike "filtering" at 70 mph plus on a very busy M1 just north of Nottingham.

But isn't that the speed your supost to filter ...

Maybe not if the traffic is only doing 25 MPH

But each to their own, everyone has to accept the potential consequences of their actions.

The cyclist this morning at road works.

It's a 4 way controlled traffic light setup... It's horribly slow. There's a cycle lane on the pavement that is unaffected by it.

So I can't think why one would filter to the front and stop at the lights...

Lights go green, they lumber off slowly, and about half the cars got through compared with other times as a result.

Was absolutely fuming, as they will have been with these "technically I did nothing wrong" brigade.

A lack of common sense, deliberate ignorance, or lack of consideration might not be illegal but they do qualify you for being a nob

Campsite owner, who took a dislike to us pointing it that new arrivals where setting up to close to us and eachother.

I mean close 4 caravans 1-3m apart, nose to tail.

Then decided at just before 9 next morning to give us 10 minutes to leave the site. Very agresivly, publicly and in very insulting tones.

In the end he would not talk to me but would try to talk down to my misses whilst insulting me. He was not going to get far, she had a challenging job in face to face customer service industry for 20 years.

Even with this going on we managed to clear site in a respectable 20 minutes. Including hitching up at 50 degree angle due to proximity of caravan and awning ahead.

I commented on arrival the next site he looked sheepish, my misses said she just pointed out how he was in wrong.

It took longer than 20 minutes at next site to write suitable reports for various safety infringment and send photographic evidence to local council, fire service and as certified site the club as well...

Plus a few site reviews.

Good luck with his threat of reporting us to the club, we are not even members. We did not know it was a certified site till he told us he was reporting us. We have advised the club this.

A few years back we had an unpleasant experience on a site where the owner had packed more units in that he was licensed for. We left of our own accord and reported it, the site was shut down as a result. So it's worth the effort of tackling this kind of thing.

All caravans should banned off the roads between the hours 6AM to 6 PM . Weekends included .. they are pain in the arse .. we had to got to Birmingham on Saturday and the roads was clogged up with other vehicles stuck behind wannabe pikeys in the 30ft trailers and there Nissan leaf cars trying to get above 40 on the M5 then deside to sit in the middle lane so they wont have to try and over take just hold every one else up . To pikeys in the w**ker pick up trucks in the outside lane doing 80mph right up your arse which you cant go anywhere do to the 1st load dickheads in the middle lanes .

Would not go that far certainly should only be allowed on motorways and dual carriageway between 7 and 9am and that's as someone with a caravan.

Other suggestion is check if caravan or motorhome caravans normally want to get to next site.

I know for me towing I get sick and tired of having to slow for the knob behind overtaking to find that we are not the cause of the problem.

They failed to notice we where stuck behind tracktor out bus that no one can get passed.

Coming here it was the knob in Mercades that decided to try overtaking on blind bend got half way passed to see 1 on coming car and 2 family with young kids cycling down main A road.

The car behind got even more frustrated with us breaking suddenly, then when I could finally pass. The car behind accidently had a go at taking cyclists out as they where frustrated and not looking as well.

Yet it was the caravan that was the knob go figure..
