Newbie from NZ

Post by Downunder Dude » Sat Aug 03, 2019 8:32 pm

Hi Guys and Girls
I am 59 years old bike nut who has been riding dirt and road bikes since getting license age 15. First bike was a Honda SL 125 ! followed by several Honda 250 motosports, which had a huge following here in the late 70s.There were lots of off road opportunities around suburban Auckland, with all the new subdivisions being developed. Great gaggles of young blokes riding around on the W/E looking for off road locations. If the neighbours got to annoyed with noise and dust, we could head out to coast and ride the beach and dunes. Lot more freedom then for sure back "in the good old days". Jumped up to Yamaha TT 500 (ankle destroyer) with manual compression and window on cam to show TDC. Ignore at your peril when starting ! Followed by brand new ( only ever 1 ) Honda XR 500, huge tech jump from TT. More lately Honda CRF 450 and CRF 250. Can't ride dirt aymore after binning my adventure bike in back roads on ride to Burt Monroe meet in Invercargill, South Island and breaking ankle.

Living in Brisbane in early 80s first serious road bike was Kawasaki GPZ 1100 B2. Amazing power but handling and brakes were crap. Queensland is a great place to ride as weather is pretty friendly all year round. I think Queensland had highest no of bikes per head in Aussie. There was superb riding around surrounding Brisbane hinterland. Mt Nebo, Mt Tamborine, Melanie and Natural Arch over border in NSW. Owned a Kawa GPZ 750 turbo for a while, very quick but turbo boost could be tricky.

Back in NZ 3 years later had a Kawasaki Z1R 1000 for few years, wished I had kept sold for $3,500 !
Current steads are BMW 1200 GS, Ducati 998 and my, fav Suzuki GSXR 750 F (1985 Slabby) 74,000km original, great condition ex Japan owned since 2004. My wife is putting pressure on to go down to 1 bike as we are supposed to be downsizing, but which 1 !!!!! it will be so hard.I follow Moto GP and SBK, have had the pleasure of attending Moto GP in Phillip Island twice. Had tickets to attend Isle of Mann TT this year, but medical emergency put payed to that. Will get there 1 year as is lifetime dream. I have a few questions about gxer that I will post in general forum. Thank you.
Cheers

Very nice bikes! That suzuki is lovely, and I don't normaly go for plastic clad bikes! I always get a bit jealous when I see garages that size. One day... :crybaby:
