With the unions deminished, factories moved to China, pits closed, there's no working class left to represent. 😂

For which of course you can blame Thatcher. She grew up in a shop and made us a nation of shopkeepers, until most of the shops went bust.

We need factories that make things where people can get jobs and earn a living with pride.

Turning our economy from manufacturing to service industries was a grave mistake by Thatcher. A lot of skills have been lost through this, making it that much harder to get back to a full manufacturing base again. It can be done, it just needs the will from government to do it. I understood why Thatcher bought the Unions to heel, but she could have done it without destroying industry.

Who knows, maybe current thinking may make it possible to transform the way we do things again.

The pit closure problem was pure revenge due to the previous strike.

Unfortunately the NUM took the bait and didnt realise the amount of resources stockpiled. Both factions knew it was coming. One of the really sad things about this week is that we now wont get the Orgreave inquiry.

It wasn't just the pits tho.

In south yorks there steel was also decimated by thatchers puppet McGregor .

Where i live we had the mills. Again now mostly shut and turned into flats.

We do need to do more to encourage industry and just IT .

One of the daftest things i ever heard was this.

Junction 32. Xscape ski centre was built on the old Glasshoughten pit. When it was announced it stated that we will employ ex miners...... How many pit lads were ski instructors......

Apparently he'll be arranging his replacement with momentum, choosing another extreme lefty 👍labour will be out of power for a generation 👌

There is a very large Working Class and they span a wide range of occupations and income brackets that includes the self employed , managers and professionals as well as lower paid workers . Unfortunately for the anachronistically named Labour Party , none of these people identify with the ideals of a handful of Socialists led by a softly spoken old man with the charisma of a wet blanket .

This is true Bob.

Im a classic example of this.

Im proud working class but if i did the survey nonsense and income bollox i would come back as middle class.

A lot who do ok turn their backs on their up bringings.

My friends and i are a sociologists dream. Most of us have done well. All from a not very nice area but to a man could be classed as a professional.

The biggest insult we give to each other is that "you middle class bxxxxxx"

Too many working class voters have fallen for middle class dream......

It's not the right to protest I have issue with, it's the mentality of protesting against something that's not going to change and was achieved by a fair and legal process.

I will always protest against the tories and Johnson if given the opportunity.

But i understand how democracy works and accept that although i didnt vote for them. Johnson is the prime minister.

But didn't Boris himself rebel against the Tories duly elected leader? And then when he was leader expel those who did exactly what he had previously done himself.

Fair's fair. What's sauce for the goose and all that....

I can see why people have an issue with Boris. He's not someone you would buy a used car from.

XTreme Breaking news; Expats with residency in the EU of over 10 years will have their state pensions and passports revoked. This will be announced in the new Queens speech when the new parliament is started early next year. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/12/14/people-have-got-revenge-against-hateful-remainer-diehards/

Why are we even still talking about him?

Because he hasn't gone yet. Corbyn and his cronies have reduced Labour from a formidable political party to a bunch of braindead cultists whose fatuous experiment in juvenile student common-room politics has long since run its course. Until Corbyn has been removed, along with all traces of the cancer that is Momentum, we will have no viable opposition to the Tories and a shamblingly inept Prime Minister who will feel safe in the knowledge that he doesn't even need to pretend to be trying.

Corbyn got his pants pulled down on Thursday night, and rather than shuffle off the stage with as much dignity as he can muster he seems to be intent on making us all stare contemplatively at his woefully inadequate equipment.

Yup - Corbyn and his Momentum cronies all need cleaning out. There are some decent people in the Labour Party, but they have been overrun by cultists.

Some of the normal minded folk did try to get rid, unfortunately momentum is too strong.

The real problem for labour is down to the unions, had they not stuck the knife in and fooked David miliband the Labour party would be a different parry today, blame Edd and the unions for the rise of Corbyn.

I still think its ironic he spent his whole political life hating the EU, yet it was his attempt to please the remainers and sitting on the fence to be impartial as he said, that cost him his election and job.

Had he not had such stupid policies and stuck to hating the EU he would have probably done alright.

I hope he stays around for months, it's great 😁

Ed Miliband went within 24 hours of being defeated once.

Corbyn has been defeated in 2 GEs and the EU elections - and failed utterly in 3 sets of Local elections.

I make that 6 times. That is one enormous f@cking level of arrogance!

That link takes you to Janet Daley's op-ed piece about the remainers getting their just desserts. Unless you subscribe to the Telegraph you won't be able to read it. It says nothing about expats getting their passports revoked. Given both my brothers are expats or more accurately immigrants I might have heard about them being rendered stateless.
