Mickly
So,Electrical terminals:Crimp ...Solder...Or both?A genuine question as I’m chopping up the harness on the Triphy project. Got these to do ( at least ), I’ve unpicked the connectors & now want to shorten the wires without having additional joints.
rennie
I'm an electrician, HV nowadays not 12V.But I would say either but not both
Stu
Crimp for me! They have been used for years with no issues and its quicker
Mississippi Bullfrog
I solder. Crimped connections seem to suffer more from degradation and damp problems. I know plenty of folks who crimp and are happy to do things that way.Of course they are wrong and wicked to do so.
JRH
I usually crimp as it is easier and quicker but use the correct crimp tool for the size of connectors.

Snod Blatter
Some say that the wires will just work harden and break off if you use solder because it won't flex like a crimp can. All I know is you only seem to get crimped connectors on original wiring..
Stu
Some say that the wires will just work harden and break off only if you work them most bike wiring is static so its not an issue
Snod Blatter
I dunno man, there's a lot of movement around the headstock and all the vibration..
Stu
I dunno man, there's a lot of movement around the headstock and all the vibration.. solder a wire and see how long it takes to break I have done repairs on car doors in the past and they are going strong There's not a great deal of places where it moves like you say the headstock and thats about it really

JRH
I do wonder why OE is crimped not soldered Cost? Reliability? Longevity?Hmmm ... All of the above, but mainly cost/time.The cable can be cut, stripped and crimped in auto machinesWiring looms are then made up on a jig. Soldering takes more time and not so easy on a cable loom production.
