Pressure washing bike yes...no... maybe?

Hi guys,

With the bad weather here and the roads in a bad state around me from the tractors, how do you clean down your bike after a dirty ride? I have had mixed reviews on pressure washing a road bike.

Just don't be stupid with it and don't aim it directly at electrics or the radiator at close range

I live in a rural area so the bike gets covered in mud. I give it good soaking at low pressure, then wash, then use a pressure washer with a moderately wide spray pattern for those hard to reach bits. So long as you don't blast the electrics or bearings it's fine.

I've yet to see an owners manual that recommends a PW.

But then... The manufacturers are very aware that some owners are clueless plonkers.

I don't see the need for one, but then I take pleasure in cleaning my bike, it also gives me the opportunity to get up close and hopefully recognise a potential problem before it gets out of hand. And expensive.

In the right hands they can make cleaning quick easy and simple. In the wrong hands they can be a recipe for disaster and potentially expensive repairs. You have to know what you're doing. And it's best if the PW is adjustable.

If in doubt, use a bucket and/or hose.

If I use a high pressure washer at a garage, I just stand back from the bike so it does not get blasted. Never had any issues.

I do clean my bike after every ride, so usually it is just slight rinsing and that’s all. But if I was on longer ride or multiple days rides than pw definitely. Just paying attention not to come to close, les than half meter, and not jet flow.

when i wash my bike i get it covered in soap suds then wash it off with a watering can with a rose on it you cant go overboard doing it that way
