Hello lovely people, I have a managed to change the oil and the oil filter and now moving onto air filter. I have a new one, do I need to soak it in oil if it is new? My Haynes says to soak a cleaned one in SE or SF SAE30 oil? Which I don’t have. I can get some I just don’t know what to do?

Thanks for the help.

If it's a foam type then get hold of some air filter oil. It is very thick and sticky. The trick is to have a spare filter foam as you need to leave it after oiling.

Otherwise apply some SAE30 oil and squeeze it out. You don't want to have the foam soaked in oil, just sticky so it holds particles. I apply a dollop of oil then squeeze and work it throughout the foam.

But the new foam may be pretreated, give it a firm squeeze. If it's been oiled you'll find out pretty easily. If it's bone dry then you'll need to oil it.
