Wanted: cheapest bike

Recommended Posts

@goat did you get a bike?

Not yet. Hopefully soon though. Have been having an eBay clear out and selling old toys. Will still be a budget bike but should have £1500 ish to spend soon without any dent in the house renovation budget, so will start looking in the next couple of weeks.

Enjoy the search...

I didn't find it easy to find anything to follow on from the GS. The DRZ worked as it was completely different, as well a good laugh on local roads.

I'd be up for ride when you got something.

You could get a good condition zzr600 for that! :-)

Never ridden a sports bike so have considered that type of thing. Most likely I'll be looking for a twin, two up comfortable and happy on lanes and roads ruined by industrial agriculture.

No you will get a zzr600 for that ...

Even though i love the zzr's the most common difference between a £300 one and a £1500 one is the bodywork .

The underneath they are all the same

Rear shock worn out

Rear suspension linkage bearings are shot due to rear shock

Brake calipers need refurb

Rear cush rubbers are worn

The issue with all the above is the calipers are the cheapest thing to fix !

I bought mine for 1100 and it is in good condition all round. The brakes I am doing to learn not because they need it, the carbs had a bit of muck in probably but otherwise sound. At least until I was driven into.

If they are usually as bad as you say I feel very lucky,

30 years old and 16000 miles when I bought it.

I shall be cautious if I have to replace it.

When you want to replace i will warn you

Its nigh on impossible to get something that feels as right as a zed .

Newer bikes of same capacity feel too light ...yes they have more power to weight but they don't have that size and feel .

Hence why i went zzr600 ,zzr1100, slight deviation gtr1000 , back to zzr1100 and as much as i try to like it the zzr1400 was too aggressive in body position so went gtr1400 ( ballistic sofa ) .

Agree with this the newer bikes just feel like oversized 125s with obviously more power hence why I like older bikes as they have a more sat in feel instead of feeling like you are perching on top of them

£1500 ish to spend

I saw something about misses and comfort. You can pick up good condition triumph trophy for that panniers the lot.

My misses find it comfortable..

Hunt is now firmly on again. Budget £1500. something like a v-strom, tdm850? If you see something about feel free to ping it to me so I can have a look. ideally east anglia - norfolk, suffolk as don't have the budget to travel miles to see dogs. preferable a twin. Main issue currently is I'm a fussy bugger and feel very meh about anything I've seen in budget

Even if it needs new carbs changed, coils, HT leads, timing pickup, air filter should still be under a grand total. With those replaced it should good for miles.

Other than tyres oil etc

Is Mid-Kent out of the question?

Possibly doable, depending on bike and price, as would have to factor in transport. What's the bike?

SV650S (2000). No mot but had 2 advisories; rear brake pads and steering head bearing. In all honesty it's been in the garage for a year. I start it every now and then and run it up down the street ut it's wasted in there. Arrival of my first born put a stop to riding.

It's got extras .. heated grips, top box and other bits I'd throw in too.

It's also... yellow
