Hi all, looking for a bit of help, I am building a website for my sons MOT/car repair business.

I am using Wordpress with the Astra template. Using Elementor I am trying to create a for sale page.

I am a complete numpty with computers and am struggling a bit, when I've finished the site the office

needs to be able to add and and delete stuff on the for sale page but its so complicated.

I dont think they will try very hard and give up. Any ideas on how to do this simply even if it means starting again

with a new template. I have looked at templates for car dealers but my lad is more into the repair side and

the sales are a small part of the business so not sure these type of templates would work.

Thanks john.

Is it worth pausing your WordPress efforts and playing around with Squarespace?

I've heard good things about their templates, including the store type templates. You can build something as a trial before committing.

I also know some discount codes.

If you're struggling it sounds like they'll struggle, and in my experience they'll be pretty unmotivated to deal with what they'll perceive as any struggle

I created a dummy For Sale page page a couple of days ago and put on photos and text descriptions of a few things,

it turned out looking OK but he has a lady in the office helping out but she is not really used to computers

and I think she would struggle adding new items. If a pro built a website then handed it to us to use would

they be able to make it user friendly and simple? I can do it for them but I wont always be available. I am hoping to ride to Spain through France this year and could be away a few weeks. "I could be gone some time" as Capt Lawrence Oates said. :D

fifthwheel......it comes down to this!

Is this a professional business? Because if you can't demonstrate a reasonable degree of professionalism to prospective clients in terms of your web presence, then why would they expect you to be professional in any other aspect?

If you go the route of DIY job, or use amateurs, cowboys, or the bloke in the pub who reckons he know this shit.......YOU WILL SAVE MONEY!

The downside is from that point on........YOU WILL LOSE MONEY!

Your credibility is shot to pieces........and it's difficult to come back from that! I wrote this article 5 years ago.......but it's just as valid now: https://www.webspain.net/portal/web-design-news/267-cheap-websites

We don't work with Wordpress (we're Joomla developers), so unfortunately I can't advise you on that application. But be advised that if you do use Wordpress then it's essential you keep the application itself and all plugins up to date!

Again.....it doesn't look professional if the business site gets wrecked and covered with Porn, Race Hate, Spam etc. If you're not conversant with all this......and it's for a real live business that livelihoods depend upon........then get a Pro.
