Bugger, is everything ok ?

Yes all is ok, I was out of country, job related but as well I use it for pleasure as well thankfully.

So as per new rules I have to self isolate as prevention.

If I got something during my trip it will eventually came out in week or two :crybaby:

Hmmmm should customs be informed that your waiting for something to come out that you picked up on your trip abroad

I don’t know if I did pick something or not, in any case most affected country in Eu is uk. So there is the more chance to get it here than somewhere in Eu at the moment.

Every time you get out of hose to shops or petrol station you are at risk.

By the way prior to entry uk you have to submit online form, so yes customs are informed about my travel. If I’m sick only time will show. That’s why I am I’m in self isolation :thumb:

Think you may have misinterpreted my attempt at Humour referencing that Customs would place you in a Dry toilet and gloved hands be parting your cheeks conducting a cavity search

It wasn’t far from that, they checked all my luggage (just by fortune they didn’t realise all dry meat and cheese I got). I had to take off my jacket they check it, i was ready to lower my pants, fortunately didn’t happen.

They cross check all my details I reported in electronic form, asked me “trick questions “

They checked bike and papers,

Wasn’t easy border crossing

Honestly I wasn’t happy and impressed by uk border control. Crossing Eu without hassle and checks, on return to uk, treated as criminal. They were polite and ok, but still, just cavity check didn’t happen.

Until they introduced the electronic passport gates I used to get more hassle from immigration coming into the UK than just about anywhere except for the USA where if you're a seaman you are one step above a self-declared criminal.

Did a bit of rugged individualism myself! Had to go to Welwyn Garden City to pick up a computer power supply I'd won on ebay that the seller wouldn't post, so just for XTreme I thought I'd take some pics of an estate..

..And then of a layby on the way home!

I got rained on shortly after this, some might say it always rains in Leicester..

I don't mind admitting I was actually a little nervous about going so far, I think it's the furthest I've travelled so far this year! Rather than using the M1 again I made my way back up along the A6 through Bedford - posh area that. Anyway, with new parts comes some work! Hello bits.

Fit it all in the case ready..

https://i.imgur.com/K66Qn6W.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'>

Test the "new" (15 year old) PSU on a slightly broken testbed, all voltages I can easily test were okay.

https://i.imgur.com/hUYBDh6.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'>

Take it all back out of the case because it doesn't work, why do you hate me old computer? Why??

https://i.imgur.com/6FWlON0.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'>

Cue much faffing and mixing and matching, new PSU works on a slightly less ancient machine bu not the properly ancient machine. Goddamn it.

Massive disappointment all round. Busy weekend though!

Hooo yesssss 8-)

For anyone with an interest in Pentium 2 to Pentium 4 era hardware some of those pictures are downright pornographic, the price of some of these things are now utterly absurd.. If you can get them at all.

Thats around the time when I used to work in IT :)

I worked for a company that supplied networks, machines and support to schools. Back in the days when having isdn was considered posh  Machines we supplied to schools usually were AMD Duron processors though if the schools IT guy was a bit more switched on they'd ask for athlons.

My high school (I was there 1998-2001) had dual ISDN lines for about 30 computers, and it was considered fairly cutting edge! 15" CRTs and Pentium 2s all in a row in the computer room, oh god I feel really old all of the sudden.

Anyway, guess what lurks in the "new" PSU..

Bloody hell

Was there a stage when nearly the world's capacitors came from a single factory and all of them were rubbish? I seem to remember going through PSUs on a regular basis and that was the reason given.

There was! It is now known as the Capacitor Plague but at the the time it was just "bad caps", to put it politely.. I'm not sure if this is a victim of that though, looks more like simple bad design - the cap that has spewed is right next to a big heatsink so it's spent its life all nice and hot.

Ancient but not leaky 10v 3900uf Teapo on the left, leaky 10v 4700uf "GL" on the right. Methinks 4700 might be a little bit optimistic!

Fiddly job..

It works! Voltages seem okay. Sad fact is though that this is completely unsuitable for an old machine and the "minor" rails are barely even present compared to the +12v rail so all this was for nothing. Yay!

I was back by noon but I still sweated my bloody nuts off!

Guys of our generation can do without our balls getting overheated!

Just don’t tuck them into your boots, let the breeze flow.
