taking your bike off the road

Anyone else considering taking their bike off the road in the current situation? 99% of the use of mine is for commuting and already hasn't moved for 10 weeks. I am now not doing that commute and won't be, likely for quite a while. My insurance expires on the 6th so I might save myself a few quid and not renew until I actually need to. I may do the same with the VED, but that will require a refund since I paid a year upfront, it's only £88 for the year so I am not sure if it's worth the hassle.

Personally I'd keep the insurance going. What you save isn't worth it if the bike gets nicked in the meantime. Plus I prefer to keep insurance continuous as it maintains the no claims and is less hassle. Same with the VED - how long do you reckon you won't be riding for? Unless it's a long time then what you save isn't that much. I tax mine both mine all year but the Bobber doesn't usually get used during the winter, I use the Honda for winter riding. But for what I'd save doing for 6 months I'd rather have the option of being able to use it whenever a nice day comes along.

Just did it few days ago, not going to use it before next spring/summer if lucky.

To me no sense to pay insurance as it is sky high (don’t ask).

Sorned 3 of my bikes at the end of March, been furloughed in all that time, saving about £15 or so a month, not a fortune but every penny helps as they say.

Wouldn't let my insurance lapse on them though.

If you have built up some no claims bonus' letting the insurance expire up to two yers and it's still vlaid. After those 2 years you will lose it, not before so just keep the paperwork.

No!

I bought my bike during lockdown and have done 1500 miles on it - I ride it every morning for fun - it keeps me sane. If ever there was a time I have appreciated my bike it's lockdown.
