I wonder where they keep the good stuff

Proper DRZ territory.

Hmmm. Well. It's not all been green lanes of course. Though a few "sneaky" (nothing saying you can't, nothing saying you can, but marked on the map as a nice short cut) gate openings, but they were all put back with the same Ray Mears no. 7 bail-a-band knot and nobody was hurt so...

But yes, lots of twisty bits in mid Wales. Glad I gave it a chance now. I'm staying another night, thanks Fran, she doesn't mind.

Might need a run up

Such great brakes.

Scenic, really quite nice.

Not a lot on the roads at all. One or two big ktm types two up and the like and a few pickup trucks.

Where we goin?

Hmmm is this a good sign of things to come?

"born to ride" - horses? Bikes? 'crossers?

It ended up being an OK sign. Not a great sign, not a bad sign. Pretty good sign if you like forestry twisties but where are they hiding the great BOATs?

So many red phone boxes. Everywhere, I found one in a hedgerow once...

Oooh a green sign. Not one of them two a penny blue signs. Basically I think it is saying "please be nice to each other" "don't lay traps, don't scare the horses" etc. Interesting.

Lovely green sign - for a proper green lane perhaps?

Hmm this looks promising. Better stop to take on some cheese, percy pigs and have a wee.

Interesting

Just go through. It's hardly a road anyway really. (it actually wasn't very closed at all)

20200911_190912.thumb.jpg.a37707cf0937d0b86898b851ef4a1e53.jpg

Even had a road closed, which wasn't actually

Fords. So many fords. This was steeper and much chomblier umbombely underfoot than it looks. The good stuff has been located.

Another ford

My kick-start mechanism had a disagreement with the amount of pounding it was taking over the rocks and decided to have a wobbler. Interesting. The lever was still up but the pawl was ratcheting like a good un, interesting. Even the internals don't like this. Sorted by stopping and starting again... Onwards.

Ahh. After making it up a bit with very sharp lookin rocks I was greated by a felled tree in the way and a diversion to the left. Well bugger. I had a bit of a go, but after going nose into the mud I had some very boring, very sober and excuseful thoughts such as: this is quite far from home, the BOAT actually looks very long on the map, including not just a fording but actually an upstream rivering, the ME22 tyres aren't even good in the wet nevermind mud, I've one piece of cheese left and 3 sips of water, it's too hot in the long John's especially after pushing the thing backwards out of the mud, time is marching on and the onset of darkness and hunger is near, there's no signal so how can I post my distress if it gets worse... Etc.

Hidden gulley of mud.

I am staying another day though... Hmm... 20200911_191047.thumb.jpg.9718763248bd42c466c059d8cf095e0a.jpg

This is the best thread that's been on here in ages ! Exactly the spirit of adventure that I was aiming to recapture with my recent trips to Scotland on my old ER5 . F**k your BMW Adventure bikes ! This is the adventure . Bungee some gear on anything with two wheels and just go . Brilliant ! By the way , I beat you to the phone box . Ten minutes after this photo was taken I tackled the Devil's Staircase and burned out my clutch . I still limped all the way back to Coventry though. https://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=64618

Haha! Yes! There's loads of them. Thanks Bob. This is turning out quite nicely. Just need the chain to f**k off on me or a push rod to get fired out now. But no chance of that, it's a Honda cbg, "it'll gu for-iver". Hmmm

Haha silly me I just realised it's the same bloody phone box. It was strewn inside with tacky bunting for whatever I'm guessing is Welsh for happy birthday/merry Christmas. Lovely bit of road round them parts.

Sorry to those people that came to Wales a smidge early but the weather is cracking. Sun's out and there's a gusting breeze of a wind, perfect drying day.

Couldn't resist a fettle. Oil was at the quarter way up mark, so required about three tablespoons, though it might be fine it's going to get a right thrashing tomorrow to get the 160miles ish home so I'm treating 'er rete.
