Another abandoned station on the GSSR route in Southern Spain - Fines-Olula in Almeria.

It was a busy station both in passenger traffic and materials from Olula del Río, Fines, and Macael......mainly marble.

Like all of them it was closed on 31st December 1984.

This is Dark Motorcycling!

you may have already said @XTreme but why did they shut so many stations ?

They were losing money and running at a loss......so they closed the lot in 1984.

This was the network......green dots are ones that I've visited!

20 years earlier they did the same thing in Britain.

This was Swansea Bay Railway Station around 1960.....I was born in a house about 200 yards away.

4 years later the line was closed......I can remember playing in the abandoned buildings. Think that's what got me interested in all this stuff originally.

A year later it was just a pile of rubble.

you'll have to start camping and do an over night soon the further away they get..

cement works over the back of where i grew up had a train line taking the chalk from the pit where they dug it to the factory where they made the cement , we was always over there , drivers would stop occasionally and let us get in the cab and and take us up to the last tunnel before they got to where they would unload or load up . We used to climb up the side of the tunnel entrance and sit on it as the train went under , happy days.
