Following on from another post, I was kind of curious: how often do people crash?

The guidelines for voting are

Don't count a crash

  • If you were getting on or getting off
  • If the bike was stopped when or just before it happened
  • If you were paddling it with your feet and lost your grip
  • If you weren't riding the bike at the time!
  • If it happened more than 10 years ago

Do count every other crash

  • Even if it didn't involve another vehicle
  • Even if it was someone else's fault
  • Even if it couldn't have been avoided
  • Even if you still feel hard done by it

[*] If you weren't riding the bike at the time!

That reminds me of one of pushbike episodes.

It's the 4th week of autumn term, I had destroyed my watch and blazer coming off pushbike in 2 previous incidents that term.

The previous term I had cut open a shirt on a branch I still have the scar on my back then there was the matter of the snapped off a pedal.

At some point I was put infront of head master for over taking the deputy head going to school.

Long and short of it my mum told me if I crashed my bike again I would not be allowed on it again...

Well we had steep drive at the top I always flicked my foot over the saddle to go of at the bottom...

Wet leaves on concrete on the corner as I slowed.

You got it down on my arse I went with a crack. Some how ending up with my bike round my neck, quick check, blazer undamaged, watch & bag undamaged.

Buckled bike wheel, not an issue I can fix them.

What was that crack? My frigging Ankle...

Luckily convinced mum that as scars and marks round my neck, demonstrated I was not on my bike and did not crash my bike when I broke my ankle... I could carry on riding.

Although looking back it might of been 6 weeks of school run, because of son on crutches... That put me back on road...

You need to include the category of whether or not you informed the missus.

If you do Just don't message your misses "Crashed bike, phone £ucked so don't call. - Bike ok gone for ride back later .."

It does not go down well..

Hmm yes. Solid run of no broken bones ever and then I lost it on a moistly surfaced roundabout. Why does it hurt occasionally even though it must've healed be now?! Crashed the little vif at Coppice trying to go round the outside of someone who decided to fall off but that was such a lovely soft landing on grass. I found out recently that this person was local to me and the mot man knows him, he still has a limp (I went over his ankle). Then T boned in true smidsy fashion earlier this year. Still waiting on a payout for the blemishing of fine Italian leather and the ankle is still quite crunchy.

I'm the "More than 10" in case anybody's wondering.

All of them (apart from one in 1978) were 1971-1973.

I've detailed them in other threads on here before.

But the bottom line is I've never wrecked a bike, never made an insurance claim, never been in hospital, and never broken a bone!

And I've written off two cars......one was even sliced in half!

And I got out without a scratch from both!

My Guardian Angel you see!

That's taking a long time :( (the payout, not the crunchy)

It's in the last 10 years!

I fell off countless times in earlier years mostly off road

my most spectacular crash was flipping my sidecar and ending up on top of a fence post

Bet you felt like a right plank

Sorry for the barbed comment 😁
