Low end power/not enough power in 1st gear

Hi guys, it’s me again!

So I live on private land so have been lucky enough that I have a small road that I can ride around, I started off on a 650cc so riding a 125cc was alien to me!

Anyway long story short both me and partner feel like it doesn’t have the pull that it should (Honda CBR125R 06) my partner had the same bike and same model and could easily pop a wheelie in gear 1. With my bike there would be no danger of that.

It’s not that I want to pop wheelies because I don’t, I just want the bike to run as it should.

It maybe due a service which I plan to do next month but I wondered if you guys knew if that could be the problem or it could be something else. The previous owner removed the baffle from the sports exhaust and I wondered if that could be a contributing problem.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice :)

Hi how long ago was it last serviced and how many miles have you done since :?:

I only got it at the beginning of the month and the guy didn’t speak much English. But the oil is still good. It’s starts on the button every time with no worries so don’t think it’s carb related. Point is though I don’t actually know when a service was last done. It wouldn’t have done many miles though as only 11,000 miles on the clock. Last MOT was a year ago and it’s only done a few miles since then

Have the sprockets been changed, they are often changed from stock sacrificing low end torque for higher speed :thumb:

Very true - you often see this done, but on a small engine it is a waste of time as the engine doesn't have enough grunt to hold the higher gearing anyway.

My rule is that when I buy a second hand bike NEVER believe a word anyone says about the oil and ALWAYS change it , and the filter , at the very first opportunity .

125’s really don’t have much power. Another question to think about is how much do you weigh (no need to answer this here :-) )

I’m 5’2” and weigh 8 stone so it’s not that  I’m aware they don’t have much power and I don’t know a lot but I know it doesn’t run as it should
