I'm a fan of voting for policies rather than personalities, not least because I think they're all idiots. Sites like this can be useful/interesting in that regard (albeit a bit late today): https://voteforpolicies.org.uk/

I've also often thought that everyone should have to vote, but with an option for none of the above on the ballot paper.

Balls to it. There was loads more I was going to say, but my apathy just kicked in.

They don't actually check your ID when going to the polling station... Stupid, antiquated backwards system.

So a system's stupid and antiquated because it's based on honesty? :?

Geez, you're probably right. :(

Postal votes the way forward.

Had one for years due to working shifts etc.

Only downside is of course if you're an undecided voter and not a "fan" of any particular party it's impossible to be swayed at the last moment.

I've never been to a polling station in my life! Postal votes ever since I was old enough to vote.

We've just been and voted! probably cancelled each other out!

we usually do

I won't do politics on here, I don't think it's right.

I have been drawn into it a bit on F/B though!

Much nastier than I remember in the past

I'm tempted to vote conservative but only because my local conservative candidate is a former world karate champion. In my mind if elected there's a chance she might go completely postal in the House of Commons, and unleash all manner of karate fury on the other MPs, leading to bloated self serving bast*rds being kicked every which way over commons benches.

Knowing my luck it will never happen though.

Election? there cant be an election....

30 June 2016, as she stood for the Tory leadership: ‘There should be no general election until 2020.

12 July 2016, to Tory party staffers: ‘Let us redouble our efforts. And let us make sure we put this time to good use, to build the support we need to go to the country in four years’ time.

3 September 2016, speaking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr: ‘I’m not going to be calling a snap election. I’ve been very clear that I think we need that period of time, that stability, to be able to deal with the issues that the country is facing and have that election in 2020.’

7 March 2017, responding to William Hague’s calls for an election, a No 10 source tells the BBC it is not something Prime Minister Theresa May ‘plans to do or wishes to do’.

20 March 2017, her official spokesman says: ‘There is no change in our position on an early general election, that there isn’t going to be one… It is not going to happen…

oooh.

18 April 2017, Prime Minister Theresa May has called for a snap general election on 8 June.

She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the EU referendum.

well - I - Never.

Between March and April i think she realised she is far from "a bloody difficult woman" and more of a damp squib that is going to get utterly eaten alive by the EU.

Best to have a huge majority when the day comes that we leave the EU with absolutely nothing but a huge bill to pay and 2 more years of May in office to spin it into some sort of imperial victory for the UK.

Hope it backfires spectacularly.

It wont though. Worst case now is a low Tory majority, May resigns and that absolute charlatan, Boris Johnson, becoming PM.

...But hand in hand with being young is not remembering the utter misery this simplistic socialist claptrap caused the last time round, and not yet having found out the hard way that there is a yawning gulf between a political manifesto and political reality. ...

Erm, 'the last time round' I remember hospitals reducing waiting times, increased police on the streets, resourced classrooms and ambulances that got to emergencies on time.

I then remember the banks f**king up the economy. Seems a bit stiff to blame a UK party's policies when corporate and personal greed crushed a global system. 'This simplistic socialist claptrap' includes breaking the ridiculous austerity measures in order to stimulate the economy, something May's administration adopted immediately (albeit watered down) when taking office.

There's a lot to knock Labour for, but the collapse of Western economies isn't it.

Trouble is that parties then break election pledges the second they get their hands on the keys. It's easy to promise the world when you don't have to do anything.

Yep, I think she wants to be voted out. Good luck to her, whatever happens. Which is worse, losing to the labour party or driving the country through Brexit?

Tax payers are screwed either way so I'm using my time more constructively and went for a slap up Chinese meal instead of pretending to care and hanging out at the election booths.. bit drunk now and not certain what animals I just ate but tasted good!! 4am alarm will be interesting..

Nom nom nom nom nom...

The alternative is to vote for policies I don't agree with. Politics is shit, but we're yet to find a better option.

So do I

hence why we are having this election!

No one asked for it and if she wanted to stay in this election would never have happened

I remain convinced that me becoming a benevolent dictator is the best solution for everybody.

There is no mod jobs going.....

Phew.

I'm only up for running the country - I'm not stupid enough to take on more than I can manage.

You come across as a curmudgeonly misanthrope. I'd happily tell people I'd voted for you in the single-candidate elections.

I think you're talking about the late 90s / early 2000s: I was talking about the 1970s. :D
